Overview

Floyd E. Kellam High School was a new 330,410-square-foot educational facility developed for Virginia Beach City Public Schools to replace the existing high school and serve approximately 2,000 students. The school was organized into four academic houses designed to support smaller learning communities within a large campus environment. Integrated mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems supported energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and long-term operational performance.

Challenges

  • Designing building systems to serve a large, multi-functional high school campus with diverse academic, athletic, and performing arts spaces.
  • Coordinating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure across multiple academic wings and shared student spaces.
