Overview

Rosemont Forest Elementary School underwent a comprehensive mechanical and electrical modernization focused on energy efficiency, sustainability, and long-term performance. The project integrated a new geothermal well field and hydronic distribution system with geothermal heat pump rooftop units and vertical water source heat pumps to transform the existing facility without requiring full infrastructure replacement. Additional upgrades included modernization of the Administration wing with a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system, dedicated outdoor air units, electrical modifications, and targeted kitchen improvements to support enhanced functionality.

Challenges

  • Integrating a geothermal well field and advanced HVAC technologies within an existing school facility.
  • Replacing rooftop units and installing new water source heat pumps while maintaining existing services and minimizing disruption.
  • Coordinating mechanical and electrical upgrades without replacing the main electrical service infrastructure.

Goals

  • Improve long-term energy performance through geothermal and high-efficiency HVAC system integration.
  • Enhance indoor air quality and occupant comfort with modern ventilation and control systems.
  • Extend the useful life of the facility through sustainable upgrades and strategic reuse of existing infrastructure.
